Welcome to World and American History:
This site will provide information for Mr. Bowden & Mrs. Heller 7th Grade World History and 8th Grade American History classes.
This year in 7th Grade World History we will be working to improve our knowledge base and skill level regarding many facets of Social Studies. We will be studying approximately 2600 years of history. In addition to learning historical content about ancient civilizations that have shaped our world today, we will increase our ability to think critically when looking at modern times. Students will gain and demonstrate knowledge of geography, different cultures, and significant historical events. Within this course we will also support the skills taught in Language Arts. Link to 7th grade syllabus.
In 8th Grade American History, we will be studying the formation of the United States from the colonization of the Americas by the imperial powers of Europe in the 16th century through the United State's period of Reconstruction following the Civil war. We will analyze the formation of the United States and its expansion politically, geographically, and economically. Link to 8th grade syllabus.
This will be the first year that each student will have Chromebooks. Because of this we will use a blended approach to take advantage of that technology. Lessons and activities that take place within the classroom will be supplemented with periodic work to be completed outside the classroom. Students will be asked to demonstrate their knowledge of world history content through the use of technology as well as more traditional paper and pencil methods. Students will be taught how to create and submit work online using numerous applications. While cell phones do have valuable educational uses, the availability of the Chromebooks will make them the predominate technology used in the classroom. As such, students will be encouraged to keep their cell phones in their lockers with only periodic exceptions.
You can contact us via email or using the school phone. If you want to contact us via email you can use the following addresses ([email protected] or [email protected]. Alternatively you can go to the home page of this site, scroll down, and contact both of us using the feature provided.
We also will be using an application called Remind to send classroom information out via text. To subscribe, click on the applicable link below.
We look forward to a rewarding year and thank you for your continued support.
